Video Poker is a beloved game that can be gambled on in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through a net account. The game rules are very straightforward and involve the player trying to get the best combination of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it is much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the enthusiast puts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.

After the bettor has selected which cards she would like to retain, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards will be given out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can vary from game to game, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to choose the most money-making machine every instance.

Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, a few versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which instance a further hand is played. There are also variations among individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
